GoVision Gets a Date to the Big Dance

Wildflower! Goes Bigger

Oklahoma Grads Commence in Style

GoVision Gets an Assist in
Prestigious National Awards

Meet GoVision's Adam Vahl

They don't call the NCAA® Final Four® the "Big Dance" for nothing. In addition to providing a 30" x by 50' sideline board (made from Daktronics PST-6i-b LED tiles) for the basketball tournament held at Reliant Stadium, GoVision brought its LED screens to the 2011 Big Dance Concert Series - a free, three-day music festival held at Discovery Green in Houston.

The annual event featured several monster acts, including Kenny Chesney, Pat Green, Kings of Leon, Sublime and Panic at the Disco, all displayed larger-than-life on four giant high-definition screens. GoVision built an 18' x 24' Daktronics PST-12HD screen for the main stage, which included a 3' x 24' row of tiles across the top for a text-to-screen scroll bar. A 9' x 16' Front of House (FOH) delay screen was also set-up roughly 350 feet in front of the main stage.

In an adjacent overflow area, GoVision constructed an 18' x 32' Daktronics PST-12HD screen to enable more of the estimated 200,000 attendees to enjoy the festival. Yet another 9' x 16' "GoBig" mobile unit was stationed in a parking lot to allow the over-capacity crowds to watch the performances.

Crowds of more than 70,000 turned out May 20-22 in Richardson, Texas, for the 19th Annual Wildflower! arts and music festival. With an audience that big, it's a good thing they rolled out "GoBigger" - the world's largest mobile high-definition LED screen, measuring a true 19' x 33' -- on the metroPCS Main Stage.

GoVision also produced a turnkey, three-camera production that was up-converted to HD, giving everyone a spectacular view of such popular acts as Fuel, Cracker, Better than Ezra and Whitesnake.

Meanwhile, on the ViewPoint Bank Stage, GoVision constructed a 9' x 12' Barco 10mm modular LED screen to showcase such classic rock legends as The Guess Who, Little River Band, REO Speedwagon and Jack Ingram.

For the fifth consecutive year, graduates of the University of Oklahoma crossed the stage to receive their diplomas in front of a 9'x 16' Daktronics PST-12HD modular LED screen provided by GoVision.

The university once again redesigned the backdrop of its stage to accommodate the screen for their Spring 2011 Commencement Ceremonies.

GoVision is a familiar sight in Norman, as the company's screens also appear at Oklahoma Sooners football games.

We are proud to partner with many outstanding production companies, including the talented "messaging architects" at Dallas-based Corporate Magic and Alford Media.

Last month, Live Design magazine declared Corporate Magic the winner of its 4th Annual Excellence in Live Design Awards, for its work on the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree, held last summer at Fort AP Hill, VA.

GoVision erected the tallest portable LED screen ever built - a monumental undertaking that, at more than 60' high and 18' wide, was so massive that 26,000 gallons of water and 76,000 pounds of concrete were needed as ballast to keep the 100 LED panels from falling forward. GoVision also constructed two 18' x 32' LED video walls on either side of the main screen at the remote Army base.

This month, Alford Media Services received an honorable mention in the 2011 InfoComm/LSA Staged Events Awards for the Jamboree. We congratulate both Alford Media and Corporate Magic on these well-deserved accolades, and we're proud to have played a central role in this magical event for the Boy Scouts of America.

1) We all know GoVision is your dream job but if you didn't get into the exciting world of LED screens, what would you be doing?

I actually was very close to managing a school bus company when I was graduating from college. The acquisition fell through and I was able to find an opportunity in the LED world and the rest is history. My dream job would be to manage an event center. I enjoy being a part of events that come together from a blank canvas to the final presentation that the public relishes. I enjoy working with other vendors (lighting, rigging, sound, staging, etc.) at shows and learning about their gear and the equipment capabilities. I would enjoy being involved with the entire pre-event planning and seeing the event through.

2) With the variety of sites you have been on, what show has been your most enjoyable experience while at GoVision?

It would be too difficult to narrow down my favorite to a single event. I enjoy the challenges and prestige of every event, whether it's a nationally televised event or non-televised event. I enjoy working directly with our clients and providing them with exceptional service and exceeding their expectations. Recent events I've worked on include: Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four and Big Dance, NHL Outdoor Heritage Classic, PGA tour, FMF soccer, and various concerts as well as several corporate events.

3) Not that you have one coming anytime soon, what would be your dream vacation? Consider money as no object ...

I made my wife a promise that we would take a vacation alone without the kids somewhere special every five years. We enjoy traveling to the Caribbean. I would love to travel to Europe again and take more time to explore more countries, cultures, and history.

4) When you're not on a show site, how do you normally spend your free time?

When I'm not working ahead on the next shows, I enjoy spending my free time hanging out with my family. I stay pretty busy with my 9 year old son's sporting activities and playing with my 6 month old daughter. I do all the mechanical work and maintenance on my vehicles and toys (motorcycle and jet ski), as well as an occasional home improvement project from time to time.

5) Being a Minnesota Vikings fan in "Cowboy Country" how have you coped working at the new stadium so often?

My backing for Minnesota has been fading. My family and I enjoy supporting the local sports teams. We rather support a local team that we can actually watch rather than a distant team that we rarely, if ever, get to watch play. I enjoy working at Cowboys Stadium and watching the Cowboys play.
